LEADING LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISTS FOR MEDIA WORKSHOP

The International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) and Association of Caribbean MediaWorkers (ACM) are hosting a workshop on Investigative Journalism and Covering Free Expression issues for Trinidad and Tobago journalists on October 16-18, 2005.

Leading local and international journalists, human rights advocates and media trainers will deliver lectures and moderate discussions on a range of issues including Tools for Freedom of Expression; Elements of Investigative Journalism, and Journalism and Access to Information Laws.

Local human rights advocates Anand Ramlogan, Gregory Delzin and Verna St Rose-Greaves will team up with ACM President, Wesley Gibbings and veteran journalists Lennox Grant and Tony Fraser in exploring these issues.

They will be joined by Pedro Enrique Armendares who is Executive Director of the Centro de Periodistas de Investigación, A.C. (CPI), an independent organisation affiliated with Investigative Reporters and Editors(IRE) which works closely with journalists in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.

Also arriving for the workshop will be award-winning Costa Rican journalist and media trainer, Eduardo Ulibarri and veteran Wall Street Journal investigative journalist and author, Bob Ortega.

Thirty local journalists will participate in the workshop which is being held at the Chancellor Hotel in St Ann’s. The event will be formally opened on Sunday October 16 with a keynote address by Bernard Pantin, who heads the Media Committee of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The Opening Session will also be addressed by Johanna Carillo of the ICFJ and Gibbings.
