DECEMBER 4 – NEW DATE FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The Fourth General Assembly of the Association of Caribbean MediaWorkers (ACM) has been re-scheduled to Tuesday December 4, 2007 at the Cascadia Hotel in Trinidad.

The Assembly was moved from its original date, November 6, as a result of the announcement of an election date of November 5 in Trinidad and Tobago.

The meeting coincides with two other activities that have provided the Association with the opportunity to optimise the presence of regional delegates at our Assembly.

The ACM is on December 3 and 4 partnering with the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean and the Dutch government in hosting a workshop for young Caribbean journalists on the subject of The Media and the Rights of the Child.

This activity will culminate in a panel discussion on press freedom and its place in the broader context of human rights. It will serve to also launch our General Assembly on the evening of December 4.

We have already received favourable responses from the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Center for the Freedom of the Press in Puerto Rico and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas to participate in the panel discussion.

The Assembly is also expected to be attended by a representative of the International News Safety Institute while the International Centre for Journalism has also been invited to participate.

Agenda items include the presentation of reports, resolutions and the election of officers for the period 2007 to 2009. The Executive Committee comprises the following officers: President; First Vice President; Second Vice President; General-Secretary; Assistant General-Secretary and two Floor Members.

The Assembly will be followed on December 5 by a workshop hosted by the ACM in collaboration with Digicel T&T on New Telecoms Technology and the Media.

We are hoping that those who had expressed an interest in attending the Assembly will be available for this important event. In this regard, we are hoping you would re-confirm your interest by email to: acmmail@gmail.com so that arrangements initially put in place for you and your delegation will be maintained.
