The ACM Journalism
Mentoring programme remains open to applicants until April 23, 2008 as a
few spaces remain available. Applications can be lodged online at the
ACM site
www.acmediaworkers.com or via email at:
acmmail@gmail.com
The programme will be officially launched at an orientation seminar on
May 24 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Caribbean journalists
under the age of 30, with at least two years' experience in the media,
are invited to apply.
The Programme is being
executed by the ACM 's Caribbean Young Journalists Network (CYJN) in
collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
A central focus is the
development of professional media resources across the Caribbean and the
instilling of ethical principles and press freedom values among new and
young entrants to the field of journalism.
Mentoring activities
will focus on the discipline of journalism, core journalistic values,
editorial advice, subject-specific guidance and general feedback on
professional outputs. Mentors will be identified from among the cadre of
senior professionals currently associated with the ACM
Following the initial
orientation seminar, a schedule of contacts, monitoring and reporting
activities will be developed and a 12-month period identified for
evaluation.
At the end of the
period, mentors and proteges will come together to review and evaluate
the experience. It is proposed that mentors and proteges not come from
the same Caribbean country, and be paired in keeping with areas of
professional interest and media discipline (print, broadcast, online).
